All land-based sectors have relevant assessments that are designed to ensure that practical skills, general knowledge of the subject being tested, and relevant Health and Safety requirements are understood and used by the candidate in a realistic environment.  The assessments are mainly practical skills test, although some have computer based, multiple choice assessments aswell.  These computer tests are straigh forward and even a novice or non-experienced computer user can comfortably use the assessment software.

All assessments are undertaken by approved City & Guilds assessors who go through standard setting and quality verification processes to ensure that the standards expected by the awarding body and the qualifications regulators are delivered consistently.  Following their initial approval all assessors are continually monitored and verified by the centres that they work for, City & Guilds, and of course the candidates themselves.  If a candidate is unhappy with the performance of an assessor then we have procedures in place to support a complaint and appeals process.

Arranging an assessment is a straight forward process and can be arranged at a mutally convenient time for the candidate and their employer wherever necessary.

Training is not a pre-requisite to undertaking an assessment, however it is advised so that you have all the up to date knowledge and practical skills to be able to achieve the necessary standards to pass an assessment.  Just because you have been "doing it for years" does not mean you do it right or have all the up to date information to meet the Health & Safety guidelines and statutory knowledge and understanding.

Training is not offered by GCPTC as they are only an assessment centre, however there are details of local training providers in the Training section of this website.  We work closely with these trainers to ensure that asessements are arranged efficiently and that the candidates are ready to progress to the next level.
